Traditional treatments

A traditional massage, the oldest form of physical medicine known to man, can be widely beneficial to your body. Each massage is different in that they focus on various areas of your body to suit your needs, and can be known to go as far as the therapist using their own feet to massage you. These types of spa treatments usually come in the form of oil based massages on bare skin, but as Jermaine Stewart said (in not so many words), you can also get the same level of treatment with your clothes on. So if you’re stressed or tired, a massage can be just the thing you’re looking for to cure your ailments. Plus to make sure you look as good as you feel after your massage, beauty treatments such as manicures, pedicures, and waxing are the general maintenance we ladies must go through to look young and beautiful every day. But it doesn’t stop there…

Out of the ordinary

There are some pretty strange spa treatments out there. The weird and wonderful world of holistic spa treatments takes the traditional massage to another level, demonstrating how luxurious spa treatments can be for mere mortals like us. Whilst standard massages are beneficial and relaxing, many of the holistic spa treatments offer experience for the body and the soul, making for a treat you’ll never forget. From 24 karat gold facials and snake massages to beer baths and dragon magic, strange spa treatments have it all.

Golden glows

If you’ve ever wanted to be made into a human Oscar statue, the 24 karat gold facial is the treatment to choose. This is the ultimate luxury, the facial of all facials, guaranteed to make your skin glow. By placing a sheet of pure gold over your face, the Japanese company UMO, who invented it, claim it can reduce wrinkles and fine lines and lift and firm skin. Fancy putting your money where your mouth is, literally?

Creature comforts

For some, the idea of a snake writhing about on their back is one to be kept in a locked cupboard amongst Stephen King novels and Steps albums, but for others it can be quite therapeutic. Their natural movement makes for soothing pressure on your body, with the larger snakes producing a deep kneading motion, and the smaller snakes sliding their way gently over your skin. It’s either a hit or a miss, and this particular spa treatment is not one for the faint hearted!

One for the men

A spa day offering beer… that’s right, you read correctly. If beer is more your thing, the beer bath spa treatment might be less scary than snakes. The vitamins and hops in beer and lager can be known to boost complexion and relieve muscle tension, so sitting in a bath of warm beer can have health benefits as well as proving your mother wrong! From large communal baths to individual barrel shaped Jacuzzis, you can pretend you’re sitting in a real jug of beer but you should probably try not to taste it.
